Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search feature is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the input and supplies its own results. Cass County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When someone sends a message by email, the message is retained long enough to respond and handle the exchange. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine technical details may be recorded when a page loads. They can include:
- Page-view timestamps
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- Internet Protocol address
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring website, when available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help measure traffic, such as which Cass County resources are visited and where a session ends. A browser can block cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical data supports ordinary site operations. It may be used for:
- Finding and fixing technical faults
- Operating the site and improving load speed
- Routing a search request to the correct partner
- Measuring which pages are useful to visitors
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Cass County Criminal History does not own, compile, or sell a database of criminal-record data about individuals. It explains how to reach the Cass County Sheriff's Office, Cass County Court and District Court, the Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, and the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools falls under that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Those practices are outside this site's control, so review the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Cass County offices, the Nebraska Judicial Branch, the Nebraska State Patrol, the state registry, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Personal information should be shared only after reading that policy.
Advertising services may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. This site does not control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Advertising networks serving ads on these pages
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a visitor's query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect information under this site's control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this policy does not promise that a breach or unauthorized access can never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If data from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy law may provide rights for Nebraska residents when its coverage and exceptions apply. Nebraska Public Records Law, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§84-712 through 84-712.09, governs access to records held by public bodies, not private visitor data. Depending on the law that applies, a person may be able to:
- Request access to personal data held about that person
- Ask for inaccurate personal data to be corrected
- Request deletion where the law provides that right
- Opt out of certain covered processing
Those rights concern personal data held by the relevant business. Requests for Cass County agency records must go to the public custodian, while dissemination of Nebraska criminal-history data is separately limited by Neb. Rev. Stat. §29-3523.
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as services or legal duties change. Any replacement will appear here with an updated effective date, and the posted version controls future visits.
